The testimony of those who bore the burden of the job, reveal the Gordian knot between them and the social, cultural, security and political storms Israel experienced during its independence.

Each chapter explores the relationship between the military action and the political decision making, the social functions of the CGSs (and of the IDF), the relationship between the military action and the policy making, the defense budget, the commissions of inquiry, and the public price.
